ESP

I was just in such a funk yesterday (see yesterday's posting), just feeling all discontent and just blah... Well, I think what was actually going on was that I felt like something was wrong but didn't know what it was. Well... on my way home I figured it out.

I left work a bit early cause I wanted to go workout and if you get to the place later than say 5:30 you can just forget about getting a machine for a while! So I left around 4, went to the el stop and ended up having to wait like 25 minutes for my train to come! So finally got on the train and it was having all kinds of mechanical problems. Kept stopping and standing, the conductor had to get off several times and check things out. Took me forever to get home. I bet I could have gotten to his place in the burbs quicker than that.

So anyway, one stop before my stop it just sort of hit me ... "Oh my god, I forgot my keys, I am locked out of my apartment!" I don't know why it struck me so I started madly going thru my bag and no keys. So I'm like freaking out. He has my spare key and, of course, he's out of town on business this week!!! So then I thought, wait a minute, I do have a key with me cause I always keep one sort of hidden in the side of my purse so I have one with me just in case. Well, that didn't pan out either cause I had switched purses this past weekend for something more casual and summery and, of course, didn't put my key in it! Auugghh!! So like I said, freaking out. So I thought well, I'm going to just call my sister and see if I can come over and crash at her place cause I'm not going to call the landlord and pay the $125 lockout fee! ($125 when every other place I have ever lived is $30 at most!!) So this would have been easy enough except 1) for like the first time in months I forgot to take my cell phone to work; yep, I think it was just one of those days! and 2) I knew my sister was out with friends after work and no idea of where they were or when they would be back. The curse of the modern age is that everything is so convenient right down to saving people's phone numbers on your cell and not having to remember them anymore! Well, this is me. I think the only numbers I know by heart anymore are my parents, my grandparents, and a few friends' parents back home when I used to call my friends years and years ago. Kind of stupid, right? So... I had to call information to get my sister's number. Problem was, pay phones are few and far between these days. The first two I found didn't work and the third one didn't work to call information so I had to call the operator and charge my calls to information on a credit card!! Anyway, I thought maybe my sister's roommate would be there but no such luck so I left them a message saying I wasn't sure what I was going to do or where I was going to go but I would call them later. Then I tried calling my mom (although I didn't really want to) to get my sister's cell phone number. Mom didn't answer and I didn't leave her a message. Then I had to call information of where he was working cause I really just wanted to cry to him. Got thru to the hotel but he wasn't in his room so I left this long weepy message for him.So here I am just roaming around Chicago trying to decide what to do. I was getting kind of hungry so went to Burger King and had some dinner and just sort of hung for a while. I wanted to waste some more time to allow everyone to get home so I took a walk to Walgreen's to pick up some contact solution. I figured no matter where I ended up staying that was really the only thing I was lacking that I needed cause I actually had clean clothes with me because of my plan to go workout. So after that walked back to the payphone. Tried to call him again and still no answer. By this time I had calmed down a lot because I had decided if I couldn't locate my sis worst case was I could probably take the train out to his place and as long as his roommate was there I could walk over there and just stay in his room that night. It would have been kind of weird but I was running out of options. So when it was a no-go with talking to him I decided to walk home and just sit outside on my deck and try and waste more time. I got there, grabbed my mail when I heard someone behind me call my name. It was my sister and she had driven over cause she had gotten my message - thank god!! She had decided not to stay out as long with her friends as she had planned so good....

So just went back to her place, watched TV, crashed on her couch, quick shower this morning, clean shirt and to work a little bit early. So now my plans are to take off work a little early today, around 3ish, catch the train to his work, hang there for a while cause he has some stuff to do and then we will drive to my place so he can let me in and I can pack up all of the stuff I need for our weekend away. Then we'll just go down to his place for the night. Then maybe I can finally relax!!!!He's a sweetheart for going out of his way for me. He was really worried about me when I finally was able to reach him. He said that he was just going to come home last night when he technically wasn't done. Would have been nice of him to do but I'm glad he didn't have to end up doing that. Would have hated to get him in trouble but I know he would have thought it was worth it.I'm sure from now on I'm going to be super paranoid about keys and phone but at least I won't get in this jam again!!

The latest

So last night I met up with my sister for an early birthday dinner with her. Her birthday is May 31 but I will be out of town (visiting our parents and going to the Indy 500) and then she has to go to San Francisco for business. So we did it a little early this year. Anyway, gave her her gift which was the DVD's of Season 6 "Sex In The City" and this perfume she wanted. She liked both things. Then we headed out for dinner at Joey's Brickhouse - great food!! They are also known for their flavored Long Island ice teas which were just awesome. 24 ounces so I could only drink one ; ) Then we went to this place called Anthony's for Italian ice which was also good. After that went back to her place for a while and then I called it a night. Went home and watched "Rob and Amber Get Married" and I am embarrassed to say that I teared up a couple of times - LOL!

To the mocking Cubs fans at yesterday's Cubs-Sox game...

Especially the two fools in our section at the end of the aisle... Yeah, it was super funny of you to mock our Paul-ee Paul-ee cheer when you guys did something well or we got an out. Ha ha! How very clever of you. Just remember one thing, we will still be doing that cheer come October while ya'll are home watching Survivor 23.

Thanks a bunch! Enjoy the season and your sink into the abyss.

Shah... my dad told me this years ago... this is not news!!

Good guys wear .... Red??

Dad would say, case and point...

Indiana Hoosiers basketball

His hometown Carlisle Indians, back in the day

AJ Foyt used to always drive a red car (coyote orange!)

And, despite what he might say, my dad was a bit of a St. Louis Cardinals fan back in the 80s so...

Well .... it could be worse ....

This copied today to me from one of my friends to her ex-boyfriend (and yikes! she copied his mom on it too):

"I have tried to be your friend, and that was my mistake. I wish you and your family nothing but happiness. Good luck with your job search and trying to make something of your life.

I wish to no longer hear from you, either via telephone, e-mail, or even in person. I have notified building security and my employer of everything that has transpired, since the night you tried to pound in my door. Security has a picture of you, as well as your home address, phone numbers & e-mail address. If you continue to call me, I will go to the police here in Chicago, as well as in Brookfield, and even in Burr Ridge, to file a report for phone harassment. If you show up here, you'll be arrested for trespassing."

Have you ever noticed...

... that Starbucks no longer has the little bottles of flavored powders, etc. that you can put in your own drink on the counter? At least not the one I go to... I don't know, maybe the smaller stores discontinued them or something... We used to put cinnamon in our Frappuccinos in college.

Just a random thought but thats what this blog is for!!

Very cool...

You can now get Amber Alerts on your cell phone. I went ahead and signed up for this. Cool service which might allow us to help someone out. Can't hurt especially if you have a package on your cell phone for unlimited text messages!

Welcome to the dark side...

From my friend Steve tonight at the Sox game:

"They are good. This isn't like watching the Cubs at all."

LOL! Love it!

Sweating the small stuff ... or not...

When someone you love does something that is not necessarily bad but you feel is wrong and goes against your beliefs... and they know your beliefs ... what do you do about it? Do you take up the issue with them or just let it slide? What if you're really bothered by it? What if the person tells you that they will never do this thing again? Should you just believe them and let it go, knowing that they might not necessarily be telling you the *exact* truth? Is it worth duking it out over something that in the general scheme of things doesn't matter all that much? Won't that cause more harm than good?
